Priscilla & Jose are engaged!!!

Friday, February 13, 2009

"Let's go to the Rodeo"! Those were some of the first words I heard from my May bride Priscilla and her ever so accommodating husband to be Jose. And, I thought "Cool"!
I am ALL about the creative side of my images. Getting to know my clients on a personal level means everything to me. How else can I produce pictures that are unique to just those two?

So it was off to the Rodeo this morning for dollar day at the good old carnival. Priscilla and Jose showed up slamming in matching white and fuchsia pink! A great attitude and lots of smiles. What more could one as for?
We rode some rides, ate much too much junk food and had a great time! Hope you enjoy your images guys! Can't wait to get to the River Walk.
Here is a sneak peak...

Our New Studio.....!

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

From my very first photograph, I realized the importance of lighting and the subject matter. To me, there has always been something very beautiful about "natural" light... that time of the day a photographer calls the Golden Hours. Since I can remember, it has always been all about the light. Then, I go to a convention where I made it a point to focus specifically upon the lighting & posing classes. Then, I went and shot my first ever indoor bridal portrait session, followed by another indoor maternity portrait session. Now, I am hooked! I know that to be the artist I dream of becoming (fierce & fabulous!) I need to not only know, but to offer the capability of a studio surrounding along with location shots.
Next, my husband is off for a year long tour... what are the few things that happen when a husband deploys??? The wife goes back to school, joins a support group, learns to fix the cabinet all by herself, plants a garden (but hires a gardener), has another child, or starts to redecorate the house. So, as I go through the list I figured it all out. I'm still holding out for Germany when the tour of Korea is over... so I will wait on school. Support group, check. I have many things that I will be responsible for fixing all on my own for a year so I am sure to get plenty of practice. The garden is just waiting for spring to be beautiful once again. No babies in our future (we took care of that!)
So, what else is left but to redecorate? So, gone is the boys room and that changes into my new office. And the huge game room becomes my new studio!!!
Hard wood floors, retro furniture, black and white with a hint of lime green punch, and my very own lighting set up for maternity and newborn portraits, and commercial work. Props-props-and more pops! Maybe a few fun bridals as well.
A new advertising campaign, a new shooting partner... since I am losing my second shooter. :( More about Ms. Austin later... :) Lot's of new things happening so stay tuned people, we are getting ready to rock and roll!

Photo of the week...

Monday, January 26, 2009

I was thinking, after archiving literally thousands of images into my backup files. How many fun-innovative-risque-artistic-glamorous-silly images that I have kept which never make it to the DB Blog. So... I will be proclaiming Mondays as the official posting day for "The Image of the Week"!

Here is my beautiful bride Hilary, married Dec. 2008 at the McNay Museum.

Laura & Alex are engaged!!!

Saturday, December 27, 2008

I was thrilled when I was contacted via Rosemary from Trinity Wedding Solutions with a bride who was interested in my images and wanted to know if I had her date available. One week later we were on board the bridal parade... today, I finally met my new bride Laura and her hubby to be Alex, since they come all the way to me from Indiana!
I cannot wait to cover their wedding to be held in May at the Bushnell House in San Antonio. It is going to be a beautiful ceremony on the rooftop terrace with an elegant reception under the stars and overlooking all of the city.
With her bridal portraits coming in May, this
afternoon we all met up at the Incarnate World for their engagement portraits. This place has sentimental meaning to this couple since they attended school here together. We walked the grounds as they showed me all over, searching for those sweet spots. We found plenty! After, we headed to the Tea Gardens. I have to start remembering how busy it is on the weekends there! And although this day started off overcast and windy, you would never guess that is was just two days after Christmas. Temps. in the high 70's and blue skies hit around 3pm... just in time for our shoot!
This May is packed with 3 weddings booked (including Laura & Alex) and 2 portrait sessions... fabulous!
As promised, here are a few of your images you two... ENJOY!!!

Veronica & Larry are engaged!!!

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Today I had the pleasure of meeting my new bride Veronica, and her "on the ball" groom Larry. This is our first meeting face to face, since the happy couple come to me all the way from Seattle. The big day is this Saturday, and they surely wanted some engagement portraits prior to the wedding and I just couldn't wait! They are just the coolest people ever! So much in love that I could feel it through to my toes!!! I cant tell you how many times I could hear Veronica whispering in Larry's ear... "I love you so much". It was incredible! Every time I would get close to them I could just see it. They show so much respect for one another, so much passion. This... this is what I love to photograph. People in love!
To top it all off... along come the kids! Three beautiful young ladies that kept me laughing throughout the entire shoot! They are SO excited about Saturday I thought they would bust. Any mention of the wedding and they were all smiles. Then, as we head towards the grass for some further pictures, Veronica proceeds to tell me that there is going to be one more addition to the family! So, in an instant, the shoot goes from engagement session, to family portraits, to maternity pictures. How fabulous is that!
Thank you for spending the afternoon with me guys!!! It was so much fun... can't wait until Saturday!

Veronica & Larry wanted one picture that captured the girls REALLY being themselves... too funny!!!
